When autumn settles over the Helford River and Cornwall enters a quieter season of calm, there is lots to enjoy at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa and across the local area. Whether you are planning a peaceful Cornish escape for two or a family break for October half term, September to November is a beautiful time to visit.
Events at Budock Vean Hotel & Spa
For a sweet seasonal treat, settle in for Autumn Afternoon Tea from 1st October, and enjoy a little warmth and comfort after a walk through the gardens or along the Helford River. Festive Afternoon Tea then arrives from 1st December, ready to ease you into the Christmas season.
On 30th October, we’ll be hosting our 1980s-themed Murder Mystery Night, Murder at the Showbiz Party. Expect big hair, big egos and plenty of intrigue as you enjoy a three-course dinner and try to uncover the culprit before the night ends.
Food lovers can look forward to the Wine & Dine Weekend from 20th to 22nd November, offering a relaxed culinary escape celebrating local ingredients and expertly paired wines.
There are creative moments too, with Christmas Calligraphy Workshops beginning in November and Christmas Wreath Workshops to look forward to in December.
For time on the water, Koru boat trips from the hotel’s private foreshore, or glide through the water on a kayak and paddleboard adventures, all available until the end of October.
For something more reflective, reclamation workshops run from our sunroom on selected dates until the end of October, offering space to pause, reset and enjoy the calm of the season.
Local autumn events nearby
There is plenty happening nearby too. Fal Beer Fest brings a lively celebration of local brews from 25th to 27th September, while Falmouth Oyster Festival returns from 8th to 11th October with events, chef demonstrations and live music.
Later in October, Falmouth Book Festival runs from 19th to 25th October, bringing authors, readers and thoughtful conversations to the town. From 13th November, the Heligan Night Garden returns, with atmospheric illuminations lighting a trail through The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
October half term in Cornwall
October half term is a wonderful time for families to explore Cornwall’s gardens, coast and all-weather attractions. Close to Budock Vean, find the bugs on Trebah Garden’s Cornish Creepy Crawlies Trail. At Glendurgan Garden, families can follow an autumn spotter sheet, discover fallen leaves from the garden’s trees and enjoy autumn-inspired crafts. It is a lovely way to celebrate the changing season before the garden closes for winter.
For a bigger day out, the Eden Project’s Halloweden runs from 24th October to 1st November, transforming the Biomes and gardens with seasonal surprises, eerie adventures and the return of Cornwall’s much-loved ice rink.
At Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, visit between 24th October and 1st November to join the Great Pumpkin Party with games, storytelling and themed trails.
After a day of exploring, return to Budock Vean for moments in the cosy lounge, seasonal dining, time in the Natural Health Spa and half-price rounds on the golf course.
